Forawrded messages
In case you haven't noticed, but I have a nice little logo on my Joined page about forwards. Well, here is WHY I joined that clique.
1. Forwarded messages are annoying and pointless (I consider them SPAM. Even e-mails from people advertising Viagra and such isn't as stupid, pointless, and annoying as forwards).
2. Consider the "Send this message or sumthin really bad will happen 2 u" ones. Frist off, these tend to be bad on grammar. I don't mind a few shortcuts now and then (see my AIM Rant for more info), but that's just bad. Second, It's stupid. How can a cheesy moronic letter bring bad luck? Call me crazy, but I do believe in hexes and such, but there's no way to "enchant" an e-mail (since it's not a physical object) to bring about bad luck. And I just LOVE (note the sarcasm) how they put specific examples in about people who died a horrible death by not passing on the message to 50 people. If they died, then how do you have any proof that they even GOT the message, or evidence that they didn't send it on? Futhermore, dead men tell no tales...so where's the proof of the method of death?
3. The "Best Friends" ones. These often say, "Send this back if you are my friend." If you actually did that, there'd be a never-ending chain of this letter being sent back between friends. These I don't mind so much, IF they have a message/image of value within (such as stuff about the good old days when we were kids and such), it's more so the "send back" part that annoys me.
4. The "Help the little 5 year old armless and legless girl with one eye and deaf who's parent's died in a freak accident get a brain transplant" variety. These often say that for every time the message is sent, the Red Cross or other organization will donate some odd cents to help with surgery or whatever. These are ALWAYS a hoax. The Red Cross even had to debunk the Jessica Mydeck one that went around after September 11th. Not to mention the fact that there is NO way to verify e-mail signatures.
5. "Send this to x people and (some celebrity)'s screen name will pop up!" PLEASE. This is IMPOSSIBLE. There is NO way to make an e-mail pop a certain message after you send it to so many people (although you can from an attachment, not that I recommend doing that). Also the screen name is likely to be a hoax anyway, IF there was the possiblity of it popping up. Waste of time.
6. "Send this to x people and you'll get a gift certificate to spend at (insert store here)". Again, BOGUS! Comapnies such as Sears had to deal with people who got a hold of these fake certificates. Trust me, it's a hoax, don't waste your time.
7. The "We need your help to open a back account to transfer $50 million dollars into, and you'll be rewared with $1 million as thanks" ones. Even if these weren't full of crap, Who the hell would trust someone over the internet, whom you know nothing about, in such an expensive buisness operation?
